The Composer is an epic motion picture that follows a young Maestro whose life is forever transformed by the peaceful days of his youth and the devastating destruction of Sarajevo, during the 

Siege of Sarajevo 1991-1995.

Set against one of history's darkest chapters, the film explores the collision between the brutality of war and the transcendent power of music.  Through a compelling love story, richly drawn characters, and a gripping narrative, The Composer celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and reveals how unity, both on the battlefield and within the human heart, can become humanity's greatest triumph.

Synopsis:​​

A young composer, one of the youngest music professors in Yugoslavia at the Sarajevo Music Conservatory High School, looks back on a life shaped by survival and creativity.

What begins as an artist's search for meaning becomes the story of a man forced to confront the horrors of war, profound loss, and the collapse of the world he once knew.

The story unfolds in Sarajevo, known as the “Jerusalem of Europe”, a city where diverse cultures and faiths lived intertwined for centuries, creating a unique tapestry of coexistence.

In 1991, as the city was engulfed by a brutal siege, its people faced overwhelming aggression with little more than courage, unity, and an unbreakable love for their homeland. Muslims, Greek Orthodox Catholics, and Jews stood together in defense of their humanity while the world watched in silence.

Amid the chaos of war stood the young Maestro, a frontman of the military squadron Sparkle 6, one of the units within the Bosnian and Herzegovinian Army known as the “Lilies.”

He fought not only for survival, but for the soul of a city determined not to surrender its humanity in the face of unimaginable aggression and destruction.

But war leaves no one untouched. 

 

After witnessing profound loss, the young Maestro’s sense of purpose was forever transformed.

He lay down the rifle, raise the conductor’s baton, and dedicate his life

to illuminating the dignity of humanity through music, a force with the power to unite, and elevate the human spirit.

After leaving Sarajevo to continue with his mission, he carried with him far more than memories. He carried the scars of war, the weight of grief, the wounds of trauma, and the unbearable burden of everything he left behind.

 

In 1995 he created, CIRCLE musical, a monumental creation that traveled across Europe, touching audiences with its message of humanity and hope before ultimately reaching Broadway in New York in 2001.
